Chapel Wardens

Derrick Burns has lived in the area for 40 years and has been a parishioner of St Saviours and later Good Shepherd when it reopened for worship. He is a physician, married to Diana (nee Dicey) and they have three children – a daughter in Johannesburg who is self employed as a marketing consultant, another in Cape Town who is an ex-schoolteacher at Herschel and St Cyprians schools and is married to an Anaesthetist in Cape Town, and a son who is a also a physician in New Zealand. Apart from regularly visiting their children in Hawkes Bay , New Zealand , Derrick and Diana enjoy the outdoors, especially traveling to more remote parts of Southern Africa , hiking in the mountains and walking wilderness trails in the Kruger Park . Their other major interests are theatre, reading and enjoying the many meetings and outings with the “Friends of the Museum”.

Judy Tippett

Judi Tippett was born in England.She completed her nursing training at the Middlesex Hospital , London , and later qualified in Midwifery. .In 1966 she set sail for South Africa to join a nursing friend, Noen Watson, and together they went to nurse at the  De Beers Consolidated Diamond Mine in Oranjemund,S.W.A.where Judi met her husband, Christian, who was the Chief Accountant. at the time. Judi and Chris have two sons, Simon and Nicholas. Simon is a Chartered Accountant, and is married to Tanja, They have one son, Daniel, 21\2, who is quite a heart throb! Nicholas and his wife Dawn live in England and own an Optometry Practice in Godalming, Surrey . Judi and Chris like to travel, and enjoy reading, gardening, walking and art.

Lionel Miles has been organist and choir leader for more years than most can remember. A retired maxillo-facial surgeon he faithfully ensures that the music at Good Shpherd is lively and relevant. He is married to Marion and they have two children

 
 

Gerrard Wigram, treasurer, was born in England and educated at Shrewsbury School.  He qualified as a chartered accountant in England and then emigrated to South Africa in 1959. He joined Mobil Oil, for whom he worked in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Kenya.  He married Joan in Kenya in 1965 and returned to South Africa where they have lived ever since, apart from a year in New York City. Gerrard joined Foschini in 1972 and retired 21 years later as financial director. They have three children, and five grandchildren.

Andrew Wilson (Lay minister and chair of the fundraising team)

Andrew was born in Yorkshire and spent the first 26 years of his life in England before travelling to and settling in South Africa in 1972. Since then he has lived in Cape Town, getting married to Jenny in 1973 at St Saviour’s Church in Claremont. They have two children; Alistair aged 32 (an eligible bachelor) and Helen aged 29 who married Brad van Beuge in January 2009.
Most of Andrew’s career has been spent in Human Resources, both in the corporate world with Woolworths as well as consulting on a freelance basis.

His major client recently has been Ramsay Media where he also edited and wrote articles for their Golf Club Management magazine. For relaxation he enjoys golf and has successfully completed the Comrades marathon, ten Two Oceans marathons as well as 19 Foot of Africa marathonsHe qualified as a Lay Minister in 2007 and is actively driving the fundraising campaign to raise the necessary funds to finance the rebuilding and restoration of The Church of the Good Shepherd-Protea. Thea Ramsay (Lay Minister and Chapelry Councillor)

Thea grew up in Johannesburg abd after working for a few years in the city she met and married her husband Alan. Iin 1976 they moved to Cape Town and settled in Hiddingh Estate where their three children Elize, Scott and Marie were raised.  She feels that she was fortunate that she could always be an 'at-home-mom'. Alan has worked in his family publishing business, Ramsay Media and is now working from home as chairman. Elize, her husband Vic and their little daughter Lucia live in East London. Scott is a freelance journalist and photographer and travels frequently. Marie and her husband Peter live in Newlands. They have worshiped at Good Shepherd since 1991, when they moved into the area.
