• August Month of Compassion. During August guest speakers from a variety of outreach organisations are invited to preach.
14 August: A representative came, at short notice, to speak of the very worthy cause "Men on the side of the Road'. The name has now changed as women are also assisted with work. Unemployed people can gather at various locations throughout Cape Town. Here they are trained "on-site" and all their details entered onto a database. Should they get work, the employer is phoned and a "follow-up" is made of this worker in order for him/her to keep a work record and evenutally build up a CV. All workers are vetted and it would be extremely helpful if members of the congregation when looking for an employee for anything from gardening, domestic work, painting etc. think of phoning MSR.
7 August: Jill Friedmann spoke of the work she leads identifying young peole aged about 11-12 with leadership skills. They are trained and suported in different areas of their lives and followed up during their teenge years. The hope is that they will be able to reach out in their own community and peer group to make a difference in other lives by setting an example. The programme is cross- cultural as well as including boys and girls from all socio-econimic backgrounds.
