Prayer for the Coming of the Kingdom from the Iona Community.

Where nations budget for war, whilst Christ say
put up your sword, let us pray … your Kingdom Come, your will be done.

where countries waste food and pursue
material profits, whilst Christ says ..I was hungry, I was thirsty….
Let us pray……

where powerful governments claim their
policies are heaven-blessed, while Scripture proclaims that God has
no favorites. Let us pray …..

Where Christians seek the kingdom in the
shape of their own Church as if Christ
came to build and not break down barriers,
Let us pray …..

Where women who speak up for their
dignity are treated with scorn and contempt,
Let us pray ….

Where men try hard to be tough because
they are afraid to be tender,
Let us pray ..

Where our prayers falter, and our faith
weakens, and our light grows dim, we pray
In Jesus’ name

Your Kingdom come, your will be done.. amen
